March
Newsletter
Welcome to Fat
Jack’s. We are delighted to see you all here today.
Our thanks to Mary
and her staff for doing an excellent job as always.
Today we start
daylight saving time, and March 20th is the first day of
spring. I hope Jimmy is right with his weather prognostication. He
didn’t see his shadow so we should have an early spring.
Remember to check
your bike out and get it ready to ride. If you haven’t checked out
your personal safety gear yet, that needs to be checked out as well.
Please refer to
Karen’s Korner for some very good tips.
We
have been having a very good turn out for the Friday morning
breakfasts. We think this is in part due to your new email update
system. Everyone knows where, when, and how to get there. Make
sure you click on the calendar and event to see all the details and
the map for directions. If you are planning on joining us on Friday
please call Black’s or Newell’s by Thursday. Last Friday we had 23
attending so it helps to know who is coming for a count. We make
reservations Thursday afternoon so the place of choice is set up and
ready for us.
We wanted to honor
our- Couple of the Year and our–Individual of the Year.
We ask them to
write up a small summary about themselves to get to know them
better.
We are pleased to
present your Couple of the Year 2010-Tom and Jackie Barman.
Hello,
we are Tom and Jackie Barman,
We have been
members of GWRRA since 1989. Throughout the years we have enjoyed
participating in the Ronald Mc Donald ride, Ride for Kids, state
rallies as well as national rallies. W e have three sons who in the
past have also been active with GWRRA events. We both have full
time jobs, American Red Cross and UW Medical Foundation. Besides
motorcycling, we like to square dance and gardening.
Thank you for
nominating us for 2010 Couple of the Year.
We are pleased to
present your Individual of the Year 2010-Marlene Maurice
Hello,
I am glad to be
nominated, and honored to be chosen, “ Individual of the Year 2010.”
Having been a
nursing assistant for 28 years, I am now retired. This gives me time
to do all the things I enjoy the most, motorcycling being on the top
of my list.
I am a lifetime
member of GWRRA and I have met many new friends as well as keeping
up with the many old friendships I have made
over the years.
Being a member of two chapters H and Chapter I , I have been able to
work and enjoy many GWRRA events.
Some of the
activities I am involved with are Church-parish events such as
helping with the food pantry, serving with funeral dinners to name a
few. I participated in community events as well, Cancer research
“Relay for Life.” I contributed in the “Ride for Kids” in Dubuque,
Iowa in July of 1992, since have been going to the “Ride for Kids”
annually in Madison.
Thank you for the
honor of being Chapter H’s Individual of the Year 2010.
Both Tom and
Jackie Barman and Marlene Maurice are excellent representatives for
Chapter H, being our first George and I are honored to have them as
well.
We had a chapter
event on February 27th the chili cook off at the East
Side Club on Lake Monona. Denise and Jeremy Scott entered the
competition and made their recipe with some clever spices. There
were 13 people from the chapter who tested the chili and voted on
their favorites. If you like chili you would really enjoy this
event.
We are starting to
get raffle prizes for our fundraiser which is coming up fast, June
12th at St. Paul Lutheran church 2126 N. Sherman Ave.
Madison, WI.
We will collect any
items you have to donate at our social or Friday breakfast’s. This
will make it easier to know what we have and what we will need to
gather before the event. Thank you all who have already given us
items, we appreciate them very much.
